Youth

Youth 1

St. Peter’s welcomes teens, helping them grow in Christian faith in a loving, nurturing environment through educational activities and joyful experiences.  Youth are valued members of our church family.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR GRADES 6 - 8: RITE 13

Rite 13 is held weekly during Sunday School hours (9-9:45) where a “hands-on and hearts-on” approach of adult leaders guides the group through serious topics, including study of Scriptures, prayer, and recognizing God’s presence in their lives.  The name comes from a special liturgy that these young people will celebrate to mark their 13thbirthdays.  This is the introductory program for those in grades 6 – 8 as they journey to adulthood.  Below are some recent Rite 13 Celebrities with the adult Prayer Partners.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR GRADES 9 – 10: J2A

Sunday School teachers work with these high school youth to help them engage more deeply in the work of knowing themselves and how they related to God and to society.  At the end of their year in “Journey to Adulthood” (J2A), these students prepare for and participate in Confirmation, when each one makes a “public affirmation of his or her faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism.”

The finale of this program is a holy pilgrimage to seek and find Christ, trips that have been life-changing to those who have travelled to Iona, Scotland, and to Rome.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR GRADES 11-12: YOUNG ADULTS IN CHURCH (YAC)

The curriculum for YAC is meant to prepare the teens for independent Christian living.  Here, they research opportunities for ministry within the congregation and each begins serving actively in the larger church community.  In addition to individual projects, the group plans a service project for the congregation in which they all participate.  Each YAC member presents his or her credo, a public affirmation of beliefs and commitments.

ST. PETER’S YOUTH (SPY) GROUP FOR GRADES 6 - 12

SPY meets every Sunday evening at 6 p.m. for fun and fellowship, including dinner and a program, service project, film and planning for trips and mission work.  They enjoy “Popcorn Theology,” watching a popular firm and discussing it in a Christian context.  Longer trips have included Orlando for a Christian music festival at Universal Studios, a ski weekend, and to the Gulf Coast for mission work.
