Outreach

The breadth of St. Peters Outreach has expanded in recent years in an effort to have a greater impact in our local, national and international communities.  Our congregation has always been extremely generous in giving of their personal time and talent to many religious, social service and charitable organizations all of which have differing missions and objectives.  In order to reflect this diversity and magnitude, we have established a multifaceted approach towards our parish's outreach.

St. Peter's Outreach program can be grouped in three distinct areas:

*Charitable Giving     *Global Missions     *Local Missions

1. CHARITABLE GIVING

Each year the Outreach Committee designates the charities and organizations which will receive financial support for the upcoming calendar year after carefully evaluating all donation requests.  In addition to the Outreach Committee's charitable giving, the St. Peter's Episcopal Church Women apportion monies which they have raised over the year to other charities and organizations which specifically benefit women and children.

2. GLOBAL MISSIONS

FOREIGN MISSION TEAMSHonduras Mission Trip

Over the years, missionaries sponsored by St. Peter's have travelled to various locales to participate in foreign missions. Recently teams have travelled to Tegulcigalpa to conducted a week-long Vacation Bible School for the children of El Hogar, an Episcopal orphanage in the country's capital city. The team travels to San Isidro to assist in the construction of the mission church, El Cruce, and also run a Vacation Bible School for children in this hillside area.  All of the missionaries worke side-by-side with each other and the Honduran people to make this trip a resounding success each year!

3. LOCAL MISSION

COMMUNITY ACTION TEAMCommunity Action Team

The Community Action Team focuses on providing both immediate and long term support to charitable organizations within Savannah that manages programs to assist children at risk.

This group works closely with a select group of organizations including:  Interfaith Hospitality, St Mary’s Community Center, Savannah Mission, and Second Harvest to increase St. Peter’s volunteer involvement and expand programs and activities to support their mission.

BACKPACK BUDDIES

Each month a team of volunteers participates in Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia's Backpack Buddies program.

The Backpack Buddy Program was created by Second Harvest to help children who are “at risk of starvation” and participating in Kids Café program to have food over the weekend. Some find it hard to believe that Chatham County has 21,000 (1 out of 4) children designed as “at risk for starvation”. Volunteers from St. Peter's pack and deliver bags to Butler Elementry School, helping to provide food to over 100 participating, at-risk children.
